Former Downtown Safeway/City Hall Site

The City of Olympia (City) purchased the Former Downtown Safeway Site (Site), located in downtown Olympia, for the construction of a new City Hall building. Following the City's purchase of the Site in 2007, and based on the results of the Site's Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) the City entered into an Agreed Order with the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) to perform an Interim Action (IA) and a Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS), and to develop a draft Cleanup Action Plan for the Site. Floyd|Snider has assisted the City since 2009 with supplemental soil and groundwater investigations within the right-of-ways adjacent to the Site, preparation of an RI/FS, data interpretation and chemical fate and transport analysis, and coordination and negotiation with Ecology. The Final RI/FS document was submitted to Ecology for review in early 2012. A public review process of the document will be conducted prior to finalization, and then a Cleanup Action Plan will be prepared.
