Camas Property

A prior Phase I ESA identified the potential for on-site soil and groundwater impacts from coal tar due to the site’s past use as a roofing tar facility.

The Camus Associates site is the location of a large warehouse in the Nalley Valley Industrial Area of Tacoma.  The site lies above a sole source aquifer.   Drilling of numerous soil borings and wells was subsequently undertaken with several inside the warehouse building.  Groundwater contamination related to coal tar/creosote was discovered in several on site wells.  The FS involved the identification of various remedial alternatives that are focused on protection of human health from direct contact with tar seeps and subsurface tar as well as limiting the potential for dissolved phase groundwater contamination to migrate from the site and impact nearby drinking water wells.
